The New Zealand Ministry of Defence (in Māori: Manatū Kaupapa Waonga) is the arm of the New Zealand Government charged with providing advice on defence matters, as well as providing civilian administration and oversight over the New Zealand Defence Force.
As of 2011[update] it is led by Jonathan Coleman. For a list of previous ministers, see Minister of Defence.
A Defence Review was announced in April 2009 by the National-led government.[1]

On a day to day basis the Secretary of Defence, (currently John McKinnon), holds the position of Chief Executive of the Ministry, and answers to the Minister.
